How to Play

Rules

Guess the hidden 5-letter word in 6 tries. After each guess, the color of the tiles shows how close you were: green means correct and in the right spot, yellow means it's in the word but the wrong spot, and gray means it's not in the word at all.

Controls

Type your guess using your keyboard, or tap the on-screen letters, then press Enter to submit it. Backspace removes the last letter.

Game Modes
Daily Challenge

One new word every day.

Tournaments

Solve a series of timed words in a row.

Challenge a Friend

Create a puzzle and share it with anyone.

Tips & Strategy
  • Start with a word that has two or three common vowels, like ADIEU, AUDIO, or ROATE, to quickly find out which letters are actually in play.
  • Avoid repeating a letter in your first couple of guesses unless you already know it appears twice — testing as many distinct letters as possible early narrows things down fastest.
  • A yellow tile means the letter is correct but in the wrong spot — try it in a different position next guess instead of dropping it.
  • Watch the on-screen keyboard: it updates gray, yellow, or green as you play, so you never accidentally retype a letter you've already ruled out.
  • Every Daily Challenge is the same word for everyone, so your Attempts and Speed bonuses both reward solving it efficiently, not just eventually.
Wordle FAQ
Is there a new Wordle word every day?

Yes — the Daily Challenge gives every player the same 5-letter word, and a fresh word unlocks at the start of each new calendar day.

What happens if I don't guess the word in 6 tries?

The word isn't revealed. You can try again with the same word after a 1-hour cooldown, and you can keep retrying as many times as you need — until you either solve it or the day ends and a new word takes over.

How are points calculated?

Solving the word earns 10 points for playing, plus an attempts bonus (more points the fewer guesses you use) and a speed bonus (more points the faster you solve it). Points are only awarded once you actually solve the word — a failed attempt earns nothing.

Are my guesses checked against a real dictionary?

Yes. Every guess other than the exact answer is checked live against a dictionary before it's accepted, so made-up letter combinations get rejected.

What are Tournaments and Challenge a Friend?

Tournaments are a timed run through a series of words back to back, competing for the best combined result. Challenge a Friend lets you pick your own word and share a link — anyone who opens it gets to try to solve your word.

Do I need an account to play?

No — you can play as a guest and still earn points and appear on the leaderboard. Creating a free account additionally unlocks streaks, XP, Rank, and Achievements.

What do the tile colors mean?

Green means the letter is correct and in the right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot. Gray means the letter isn't in the word at all.

Can I use the same letter twice in a guess?

Yes. If the answer has a repeated letter, guessing it twice can reveal that — the tile coloring correctly accounts for how many times each letter actually appears in the word.

Does the Daily Challenge word change at the same time for everyone?

No — it changes at your own device's local midnight, not one fixed global time. Everyone still gets the same word on the same calendar date, but exactly when "today" flips to "tomorrow" depends on your own timezone.

Can I keep playing Wordle after I solve the Daily Challenge?

Not the Daily Challenge itself — once you've solved today's word, it's done until a new one unlocks tomorrow. Tournaments and Challenge a Friend are both available any time in between, though.

How does Wordle Tournament scoring work?

You earn 30 points for starting, plus 15 points for each word you solve, plus a bonus amount set for that specific tournament — all awarded in one shot once you finish every word in the run.

What happens if I fail a word during a Tournament?

Your progress resets back to the first word, with none of that run's points banked yet. You can retry a Tournament as many times as you like — nothing is lost by failing except that attempt.

How does Challenge a Friend work?

You pick your own 5-letter word (checked against the dictionary), and the site generates a link you can share with anyone. You can make it public, so anyone can find it, or private, so only people with the link can open it. Links expire after a set number of days.

Do I earn points for creating a Challenge a Friend puzzle?

Yes — you earn points for each different player who attempts your challenge, on top of whatever points you earn solving other players' challenges yourself.

Can I share my Daily Challenge result?

Yes — "Copy Result & Share with Community" and "Share with Friends" are two independent, one-time bonuses you can both claim after finishing, each posting a spoiler-free colored-square grid of your attempt.

Does playing Wordle affect my streak?

Yes — solving the Daily Challenge (any of the three games, not just Wordle) advances your daily streak, as long as you play on consecutive calendar days.

What's the Wordle leaderboard based on?

Total points earned across every Wordle mode — Daily Challenge, Tournaments, and Challenge a Friend — for whichever period you have selected (Today, Week, Month, Year, or All-time).

Can I win a Wordle Championship?

Yes — the top-scoring Wordle player each day, week, and month is crowned Champion for that period, with tiered badges for repeat wins.

Are there Wordle-specific achievements?

Yes — Level tiers (Expert, Master, Grand Master, based on your lifetime Wordle points) and Championship win-count badges, on top of every game-agnostic achievement Wordle play can also count toward.

Does Wordle work on mobile?

Yes — the board and keyboard are fully responsive, with a tappable on-screen keyboard, so no download or app install is needed.
